University of St Andrews Campuses

St Andrews is made up of three colleges — United College (a union of St Salvator’s and St Leonard’s Colleges), St Leonard’s College, and St Mary’s College. The university is home to historic and modern buildings located all over the town.

University of St Andrews Faculties and Degree Programs

There are 18 academic schools organized into four faculties. Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Divinity, and Faculty of Science. The academic year is divided into two semesters, Martinmas and Candlemas, named after two of the four Scottish Term and Quarter Days. In term time, over one-third of the town’s populace are either students or staff members of the university.  A dean is usually chosen by the Master of the United College to run the day-to-day activities of each faculty.

Under these faculties, over 900 degrees and courses are offered to students from all over the world. Numerous facilities are provided for the students in both academic and extra-curricular fields. The university has four different libraries and houses the oldest reading room in Scotland, the King James Library.

The student body is particularly diverse: over 145 nationalities are represented with more than 40% of its admitted students from countries outside the UK; about one-eighth of the students are from the EU the remaining third are from overseas— in which 15% are from North America alone.

1.       Either Scottish Qualifications Agency Standard Grade (S Grade) or General Certificate of Education (GCE) with passes in at least 5 approved subjects.

2.       Also, either 4 approved subjects at SQA Higher Grade (H Grade) or 3 approved subjects at GCE Advanced Level (A-Level).

3.       Qualifications equivalent in-depth and breadth to the above from the student’s country of origin.

University of St Andrews Tuition Fees

Students at the University of St Andrews are expected to pay tuition fees for every year of attendance. The amount you will pay depends on your fee status and the degree you are studying for.

You can either pay your tuition fees online in advance or upon matriculation in September.

For students studying in the Faculty of Arts, Divinity, or Science, tuition fees for 2022-2023 will be £26,350 annually. Tuition fees are fixed at this level for the duration of your degree program.

For students studying in the Faculty of Medicine, tuition fees for 2022-2023 will be £33,570 annually. It should be noted that the Scottish Government has introduced a compulsory new national levy for foreign medical students for each year of study to cover the costs of NHS clinical teaching, which is reflected in the tuition fee. As a result, fees may increase annually during the course of your study by up to 5% or up to the amount of the levy.

Scholarship options for the University of St Andrews

Scholarship options Funded by the University

The following scholarships listed below are entirely funded by the University of St Andrews and benevolent donations made by alumni and friends of the University of St Andrews, charitable trusts, and other organizations and companies.

BA International Honours Scholarship

This scholarship is for entrant undergraduate students applying to the William & Mary joint degree Bachelor of Arts International Honours Programme commencing their first year at St Andrews.

Cheng Scholarship

This scholarship is for entrant undergraduate students from China, Taiwan,  Hong Kong, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, or Thailand, with a preference for applicants studying in the schools of Geography and Sustainable Development or Earth Sciences. The selection committee seeks out candidates who satisfy the academic criteria for entry to the University and will be selected based on financial need.

International Excellence Scholarship

This scholarship is for entrant undergraduate students. The selection committee seeks out candidates who are confident, dynamic,  and gifted with academic excellence. The successful candidates should be ready to serve as a Student Ambassador for the University and represent the University at a number of events.

International Undergraduate Scholarship

This scholarship is for entrant undergraduate students. The scholarships will be awarded as a reduction of tuition fee reduction to up to £10,000 per year for each year of the student’s undergraduate studies and are awarded on the basis of financial need.

Saints Abroad Scholarships

This scholarship is open to current undergraduate and postgraduate students who are studying or working abroad on an approved University program as part of their degree. There are also some scholarships options to support summer placements related to a student’s degree program.

Students’ Association Bursary

This scholarship is for entrant undergraduate students and was formed by the Students Association to offer financial assistance to academically gifted students who would otherwise struggle with the cost of studying at the University of St Andrews.

Chemistry Purdie Scholarships

This scholarship is for entrant undergraduate students to study Chemistry or a Chemistry-related subject within the school of Chemistry. This award is for the student’s entrant year only.

Saints Sport Supported Athlete Programme

This scholarship is available to students who show excellent abilities and potential in sport while studying at St Andrews.

External

The following scholarships are managed and funded by an organization outside the University of St Andrews but may be available to eligible students who wish to attend the University.

Bermuda Scholarship

This scholarship is for entrant undergraduate students from Bermuda who have attended school in Bermuda for at least 5 years.

Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland

This scholarship is for students who are not eligible to receive government funding towards the cost of their tuition fees.  Carnegie Trust considers applications from students of Scottish birth, parentage, or schooling for courses leading to a first degree at a Scottish University.

Entrepreneur Scholarship Programme

This scholarship is for undergraduate and postgraduate students that showcase academic excellence and entrepreneurial potential.

SOCAR Scholarship

This scholarship is for entrant undergraduate students from Azerbaijan. The scholarship includes tuition fees, living costs, and transportation expenses. Successful candidates must agree to return to Azerbaijan to work for SOCAR after their studies.

WU Scholars

This scholarship is for entrant undergraduate students holding a degree offer of a place within the course categories of  STEM, science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and business/entrepreneurship. Students must be aged 18-26.
