FAQ on George Mason University

I want to apply to multiple programs. Do I need to submit multiple applications?

Yes. You will need to submit separate applications, complete uploads, and pay application fees for all applications submitted.

How do I send my documents?

GMU admission process is online which provides the opportunity for applicants to upload most of the required items, including unofficial transcripts and letters of recommendation, in their Application Portal. This process is faster and more effective for applications.

Can I send my documents via post mail?

GMU strongly discourages mailing any documents via postal mail, unless necessary, as it will significantly slow down your application process. Only admitted and enrolled students are required to submit official transcripts.

If you still need to mail documents to the admission office, then send them to:

George Mason University

4400 University Drive

MSN 4C8-Office of Graduate Admissions

Fairfax, VA 22030

Tip to ensure delivery: Type or write the university name on your package exactly as it appears above. The MSN is the Mail Stop Number. This is particularly important, as that is what gets your items directly to the admission office versus the many, many others data on the campus.

Is the TOEFL required for my application?

If you have not earned a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an institution in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada (excluding province of Quebec), Commonwealth Caribbean (Antigua, Barbuda, Belize, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts, and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago), Ireland, or New Zealand, you must provide proof of English proficiency.

This is a non-negotiable requirement, based solely on where your highest degree was earned.

I graduated from George Mason. Do I need to upload those unofficial transcripts?

No, you don’t need to upload transcripts. But you still need to upload a document for submission because you will put that in your education history. Just send a Microsoft Word document that says “GMU ALUMNI” and they will know how to pull your documents for you.
