FIU admission is selective. The acceptance rate is 50%. That means the university only admits 50% of its total applications. You may be among the 50% if you are academically prepared.

What are the SAT/ACT requirements at Florida International University (FIU)?

To gain admission into FIU, you should score between 1110 and 1260 for SAT or score between 23 and 29 for the ACT.

What is the GPA requirement at Florida International University (FIU)?

Your GPA should be at least 3.3 or higher. That means your grades should be mostly B’s or a mix of B’s and a few C’s.

What are the Admission Requirements for first-year students at Florida International University (FIU)?

  • Your Grade Point Average (GPA) is required. FIU will evaluate your GPA based on the courses taken.

  • For your Florida International University weighted GPA, the university will consider Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Dual Enrollment, AICE and Honors courses.
  • Your FIU weighted GPA will also be used for Scholarships as well.
  • You are required to submit the following high school courses:
  • 4 credits of English
  • 4 credits of mathematics (at or above algebra I or higher)
  • 3 credits of natural science (two must have included substantial lab requirements)
  • 3 credits of social science (includes anthropology, history, civics, political science, economics, sociology, psychology and/or geography)
  • 2 credits second language
  • 2 credits in additional academic electives

Kindly note this:

  • You can take and submit High School Courses beyond the aforementioned minimum required courses. This will improve your chances of gaining admission into the university.
  • Degree programs like architecture and nursing have higher minimum admission requirements than others. These programs may require additional information or exams along with your application.
  • You are required to submit transcripts from your high school and from any other institution you received dual enrollment credits.
  • You are required to submit an essay or personal statement.
  • You are required to submit letters of recommendation
  • You are to pay for the application; the fee is $30
  • You are required to send your official scores for SAT/ACT

Kindly note the following SAT/ACT extra details:

  • Send SAT through CollegeBoard.org (code: 5206)
  • Send ACT scores through ACT.org (code: 0776).
  • Your SAT/ACT scores should be sent directly from the testing agency. Same applies to Advanced Placement (AP), CLEP, International Baccalaureate (IB), or any other exam credit scores. AP scores must be a 3 or higher.
  • If you are using an SAT/ACT fee waiver, kindly choose “Pay by Check” when submitting the application and upload your waiver to your student portal on MyFIU or send it directly to your admissions counselor for processing.
  • Your scores will not be considered once submitted after the application deadline.
  • Regardless of how uncertain you are about FAFSA qualification, you are to file for FAFSA before the deadline. Who knows, you may be eligible for financial aid awards .
  • Whether you are a Florida resident, U.S. resident or international student, you are required to submit proof of residency. The Residency Documentation will determine whether you paid in-state or out-of-state tuition.

  • If you don’t provide residency documentation, your enrollment will be delayed.
  • Your residency proof will only be used for tuition and financial aid purposes.
  • After the completion of your application, you will be assigned a Panther ID. Within 1-3 business days you will have access to your MyFIU account where you can check your application status.

What are the Admission requirements for International freshmen at Florida International University (FIU)?

You are an international freshman if you are about to complete high school or if you are yet to enroll in a 2-4 year college or university. You are not an international freshman if you are a U.S Passport holder and permanent resident studying abroad.

  • You are to first of all create an account on FIU’s main application page.
  • There is a fee attached to the application; you are to pay $30.
  • Proof of English proficiency- If you are from a non-English speaking country, or,English is not your native language, or the language of instruction at school including internationally educated domestic students, you must prove your English proficiency.

  • For direct admission into FIU, international first time in college students are not required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores.
  • You are required to meet the Florida Board of Governors requirements for the college readiness largely determined by your SAT or ACT sub-section scores in Verbal/Reading and English sections.
  • If you are able to meet these subsection scores and have the appropriate GPA, then, you are academically qualified for admission to FIU.
  • Meeting minimum qualifications for admission does not guarantee admission into a specific term and/or program.
  • You are required to submit your SAT or ACT test scores for admissions consideration; whether in-state, out of state, and international students.

  • You are required to submit your Official High School Transcripts electronically.

  • Your transcripts should be sent directly from the school or counselor.
  • Your transcripts should be translated to English, if they are not in English.
  • You must also submit an official translation of your transcript along with the original documents.
  • You are not to send your original transcript/diploma if no other copy exists. This is because your transcripts will not be returned or forwarded to any other institution after submission. They have become FIU property.

 What is the cost of studying at Florida International University (FIU)?

There are direct and indirect costs of studying at FIU. Tuition and fees, books and supplies (if bought from the university bookstore), on-campus housing and meal plans are direct costs. They are paid directly to FIU.

Florida International University is not all about the books, tests, exams, academics, reading, or sitting all through in the class. The university allows you to explore your interests and make a difference via its about 300 clubs.

You can play football, volleyball or soccer when the season arrives. You can write for the student newspaper, or join the intramural sport, Student Government Association, fraternity, or sorority and go Greek and so on. There is enough space and top-notch facilities for you to have a great workout and be fit and healthy. You can get to acquire practical skills and experience from FIU’s various clubs and organizations.

Also, FIU restaurants are not only beautiful but have beautiful and delicious food as well. There are about 36 restaurants across 3 campus locations to satisfy your big or small cravings. You can get all your needs in campus stores with ease. Honestly, FIU really makes everything easy for you.

In terms of housing, FIU housing is safe, convenient, and luxurious. The campus police ensure everyone’s safety 24/7. There is a private pool area and more than one study area on every housing floor. There is really so much to enjoy daily or every weekend depending on your free time.
