GCE GOVERNMENT ESSAY (THEORY) ANSWERS | 4TH FEBRUARY, 2022
Socialism significantly increases the tax burden on individuals: When an economy has a high rate of progressive taxation, there are more disincentives to consider when working or creating a business opportunity.
(ii) Because they are not true owners, entrepreneurs lack motivation to operate: Socialism can provide opportunities for ownership, but it is rare for the individual. As a result, entrepreneurs are immediately disincentivized from putting in the effort to start a business from scratch.
(iii) Governments can fail when attempting to regulate industries or own businesses: In an ideal world, each government would be successful in its business regulation activities. Every day, labor markets and public industries would function as if by magic. This disadvantage exists as a result of humanity’s frailty.
(iv) Excessive labor market regulations may result in fewer job opportunities.
Socialist governments can impose stringent regulations on various industries to the point where the number of available job opportunities is reduced.
Requiring employees to be available for a specific shift or to work for a specific wage can limit the number of open positions that a company can support. Higher levels of market regulation can help to improve the environment or lead to lower prices for goods and services, but they can also discourage investment if they are severe enough.
(v) The establishment of a welfare state may result in industrial disincentives.
When a socialist government’s welfare state is overly generous, there is a disincentive to work. As a result, the labor force may be reduced as people choose to stay at home rather than pursue a career. That is why poverty develops in the end. Welfare is supposed to provide people with just enough to get by so that the desire for more money leads them to work.
(7) They advise government officials on matters about people’s customs and traditions, and so on.
(ii) As a custodian of the people’s customs and traditions, they contribute to the preservation of the people’s customs and traditions.
(iii) They encourage people in their community to get involved in government at all levels.
(iv) They contribute to the upkeep of law and order in their communities. They try and punish lawbreakers, settle disputes, and so on.
(v) They mobilize their people to participate in community development projects by acting as a link between their community and government by explaining government policies, programs, and projects to the people and reporting back to the government on the people’s feelings and problems.
(8) Population: One of the most important determinants of foreign policy is population. For a long time, the population was thought to be an important criterion for measuring state power.
(ii) History: Foreign policy has an impact on each nation’s history. The special circumstances of the chips and events form the outline of each nation’s history. It is possible to figure out who it is.
(iii) Public opinion: All countries are defined by the opinions of their citizens. The views held by the majority of Nigerians are frequently regarded as the goals of the country’s foreign policy.
(iv) Ethnic and religious diversity: Diversity is beneficial because no two people, groups, or nations are alike, and each can contribute something.
(v) Economic Resources: Economic resources heavily influence the nature and style of foreign policy. A state’s economic strength is an indicator of its affordability. The impact of that ability can be seen in relations with other countries.
