About Quinnipiac University
Quinnipiac University is a private university situated in Hamden, Connecticut. The university grants undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees through its College of Arts and Sciences, School of Engineering, School of Business, School of Communication, School of Law, School of Health Sciences, School of Medicine, School of Education, and School of Nursing. The university also hosts the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute and its acceptance rate is 70%.
The university was founded in 1929 and currently has a total undergraduate enrollment of 6,841. The university setting is suburban, and the campus size is approximately 600 acres. It uses a semester-based academic calendar.
Quinnipiac also has a joint J.D./MBA program that lets students cut down on one or two semesters of extra classes. Quinnipiac University has three campuses: the Mount Carmel campus which is located off of Mount Carmel Avenue in Hamden; the North Haven Campus in North Haven, just north of New Haven, Connecticut, and the York Hill campus located off of Sherman Avenue in Hamden.
The oldest campus is the Mount Carmel Campus. Many of the university’s main buildings can be found on this campus. The university administration, the Carl Hansen Student Center, Arnold Bernhard Library, and many of the student residences are found on this campus.
In 2007, Quinnipiac university acquired a 100-acre campus in North Haven, Connecticut, and has gradually been altering it for use for graduate programs at the university. Most graduate programs are taught at this campus.
The York Hill Campus is located on a hill about a half-mile from the Mount Carmel Campus. It began with the development of the People’s United Center. In 2010 a new student center was built on the campus, as well as expanded parking and residence facilities as part of a $300 million expansion of the 250-acre campus. York Hill is actually a “green” campus, making use of renewable energy and environmentally friendly resources, including one of the first major wind farms, integrated into a university campus.

Earnest launched a scholarship fund that help 50 students take on less debt. The Earnest Scholarship Fund awards $5,000 to 50 justified students. Applicants can be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (including DACA students).

Is it mandatory for first-year students to live on campus?
New first-year students are required to live in campus housing for their first 3 years of study. Generally, upper-class students live on the York Hill Campus, while first-year and sophomore students live on the Mount Carmel Campus.
Is housing guaranteed for all 4 years?
Housing is only guaranteed for the first 3 years and on a space-available basis in the senior year.
Are there any certain subjects/courses in high school that is required to be taken?
Quinnipiac looks for a college preparatory sequence of courses, with a minimum of 16 academic courses including English, math, science, social science, and a language. For nursing and health sciences programs, we look for 4 years of math and 4 years of science courses.
Are recommendations, and/or essays required for admission?
Quinnipiac requires a personal essay from you that tells them more about who you are, and what speaks to your values, goals, and aspirations as a student.
The university also requires one letter of recommendation from a teacher, guidance counsellor, or someone who can reflect on your dedication and work ethic.
Does Quinnipiac require an interview for admission?
No, they don’t. Although Quinnipiac does not require an interview, the university welcomes the opportunity to talk with students about their goals and Quinnipiac. Interviews are available weekdays year-round, and in the fall when counsellors travel to regional areas. For those at a greater distance, a skype interview can be arranged, if requested.
Do Quinnipiac accept AP, IB, and/or college courses for credit?
Yes. Quinnipiac awards credit for Advanced Placement (AP) courses completed in high school for students who receive a minimum required score on the AP exam. Students who have taken Higher Level (HL) IB courses with a minimum score of 4 also receive credit. Quinnipiac also gives credit for college courses completed as part of the high school curriculum.
Does Quinnipiac accept self-reported test scores?
Yes, if students show their individual scores on the application or in follow-up materials, Quinnipiac will use it; however, official test scores must be provided prior to enrollment.
