• You are to submit a high school counselor letter of recommendation. However, if this is not feasible for a school counselor due to large student caseloads, a teacher’s letter of recommendation will do.

These recommendation letters should either be from your English, Foreign Language, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies (History, Economics, etc.) teachers. These selected teachers should be from your last two years of high school. However, recommendation letters from 10th-grade teachers will also be considered.
• Your high school counselors will also need to submit your mid-year reports; the counselor is expected to submit your first-semester senior grades.
• Official TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test Scores: Aside from standardized test scores in areas like SAT/ACT, there is also a requirement for your TOEFL/IELTS/DET scores. Due to the challenges being faced by the outbreak of COVID-19, you will not be required to submit scores from the SAT or ACT exams. However, if you have taken the SAT and/or ACT exam and would like Barnard College to review your test scores, you may then submit a self-report about your highest scores via the Common Application, Coalition Application, or the Barnard Applicant Portal.

• Additional letters of recommendation

You may request letters of recommendation from up to two additional sources outside the required letters of recommendation. More additional letters of recommendation are recommended. However, these letters must come from a different perspective than your previous letters, such as a part-time job supervisor, a research mentor, or a club advisor.
